Sinaubi Zawose, born on February 1, 1995, is a Tanzanian traditional music artist and a proud descendant of the legendary Zawose musical lineage. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the preservation of Gogo music, Sinaubi was surrounded by rhythm, dance, and storytelling from an early age. He began learning traditional instruments and dances at the age of ten, guided and inspired by the collective musical spirit of his family. Their shared dedication to culture shaped his early understanding of artistry and heritage. Although his family encouraged him to complete his formal education before fully embracing music, Sinaubi’s passion continued to grow. He practiced traditional Gogo melodies tirelessly, developing a profound connection to the musical identity of his people. In 2008, he made his public debut with his first traditional album, “Wichimaje,” officially marking the beginning of his musical journey. In 2014, he advanced his studies by joining TaSUBa (Bagamoyo Institute of Arts and Culture), where he strengthened his performance and production skills. A major highlight of his career came in 2019 when he represented Tanzania at East Africa’s Got Talent in Nairobi. From more than 5,000 participants, he reached the semi-finals, becoming the first East African artist to perform authentic Gogo music on that platform using traditional instruments such as the zeze. Beyond performance, Sinaubi is committed to bridging generations by blending traditional Gogo elements with modern musical expressions. His collaborations—including projects with Pamoja Zanzibar—have taken his work to international stages, contributing to wider recognition of Tanzanian traditional music. In 2023, he released the album “GOGO HIP,” recorded with a large ensemble using live traditional instrumentation. The album reflects his commitment to evolving Gogo music while preserving its cultural and spiritual essence. Sinaubi Zawose continues to carry forward the legacy of the Zawose family through innovation, cultural pride, and a lifelong dedication to sharing the soul of Gogo music with the world.
